About This Role:


We are looking for an entrepreneurial-minded innovator to join our internal consulting team located in downtown Atlanta GA, focusing on advanced analytics and data science. This individual will focus on leveraging existing solutions developed by our Data and Decision Science team, as well as developing new and innovative data driven approaches to generate insights and drive optimized category decisions for our Walmart/Sam’s Club business.

 

This individual contributor role will be part of GP’s state-of-the-art Data and Decision Science capability that helps build, scale, utilize and socialize advanced data-driven models designed to inform our go-to-market strategies across all our retail customers. It will also have a dotted line to our Category Management organization to help contextualize and prioritize business questions.

This is a unique role in the organization, in that, it will give the incumbent high level of responsibility in both technical and business domains with a potential future career path in either direction. To that effect, two main expectations for the role will be:

 

- Act as a hands-on subject matter expert of Data and Decision Science models, methodologies, datasets, and tools

 

- Own end-to-end management of internal and external customer engagements; identify leads, draw out opportunities, draft solution proposals, build models, perform analysis, deliver insights and make business recommendations to promote overall category growth for the retailer



A Day In The Life Typically Includes:

  • Act as a champion of PRISM (Data and Decision Science team’s internally-developed machine-learning platform) and utilize its capabilities to deliver analyses and recommendations in areas such as distribution, assortment, shelving, pricing, merchandising and marketing optimization.
  • Seek and productize new data sources (e.g. demographics, financial, digital, marketing) to enrich existing PRISM models (e.g. develop prototypes, run experiments, propose features).
  • Work with Data and Decision Sciences team to develop new models, algorithms, tools and dashboards with retailer specific datasets (e.g. Retail Link) to influence retailer’s category strategy.
  • Form and maintain working relationships with cross-functional partners such as category management, sales strategy, customer investment teams as well as external Walmart/Sam’s Club stakeholders to proactively propose advanced analytics solutions and approaches addressing their business needs.
  • Enhance GP’s Trading Partner relationship with Walmart/Sam’s Club by being viewed as a category first thought leader and a pioneer of innovative modeling and analysis approaches.
  • Work with primary contact in Category Management to prioritize and frame advanced analytics projects and deliver recommendations and solutions that promote overall category growth across categories.
  • Deliver compelling presentations and sell-in stories to a wide range of internal and external customers.
  • Attend and represent advanced analytics in key business meetings to keep abreast of priorities and important initiatives, propose relevant innovative advanced analytics solutions to tackle business questions.
  • Build and expand business knowledge around key category, channel, and competitive trends, understand price elasticities (own, competition, x-retail), identify opportunities, and develop specific recommendations on product, portfolio, and price strategy across brands, channels, and pack-sizes.


What You Will Need

  • Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Engineering, Economics, Mathematics, Business or a related field
  • 5+ years of data analysis experience in a consumer packaged goods company, retailer or a related industry
  • Familiarity with point of sale or transaction level sales data (e.g. IRI, Nielsen, Ibotta, consumer panel)
  • Proficiency in fundamentals of statistics, visualization, and analysis of large datasets
  • Proficiency in a programming language (e.g. R, Python, C++, MiniTab, SAS, Matlab, VBA)
  • Proficiency with a data visualization software (e.g. Tableau, Qlik, Power BI)
  • Ability to influence without authority a wide variety of internal/external stakeholders at all organizational levels
  • Proven track-record of relentlessly championing data-driven insights and decisions across a diverse set of stakeholders
  • Strong appetite for learning, innovation, open to challenge, and be challenged with new ideas and established approaches
