Technical Manager – Albany, GA
 
Have you heard? Georgia-Pacific is opening a new state-of-the art lumber mill in Albany, Georgia, with an anticipated start date of late 2019. Once in operation, this location will receive produce approximately 350 million board-feet of lumber a year with plans to expand beyond that in the future! This is an exciting opportunity to work in a technologically advanced plant.

Georgia-Pacific is seeking an Technical Manager for our new lumber mill in Albany, GA. The Technical Manager will utilize leadership, influence, operations experience, and communication abilities to analyze key performance data on process, product, and equipment to identify strategic improvements that create value. This position provides process engineering oversight for the entire manufacturing process, reliability to improve quality, increase production and yield, and eliminate waste. The incumbent is responsible for working with team members at all levels to capture strategic value opportunities and implementing operating practices to improve Talladega’s overall competitive position.
 
A Day in The Life Typically Includes:
  • Support value creation efforts by analyzing lumber manufacturing process performance and developing key metrics to promote process improvement in safety, environmental, production, quality, value, and yield performance.
  • Collaborates with key site and divisional personnel to value and prioritize identified opportunities and outline execution strategies accordingly.
  • Utilizing strong communication and interpersonal skills to establish rapport, build trust, and overcome barriers.
  • Work with employees at all levels in a way that supports/enhances our MBM principles, fosters teamwork, identifies and mitigates inefficiencies and gaps, and produces results.
  • Lead teams in the execution of continuous improvement projects to accomplish goals.
  • Ensure safe work practices are followed at all times and drive safety awareness through leading by example.
 
What You Will Need:
 
Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree in engineering, business, or economics.  
  • Five (5) or more years in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
  • Two (2) or more years of process engineering, manufacturing engineering, and/or plant engineering experience.
  • Experience with Root Cause Analysis, Gap identification and analysis, and project or program planning and execution.
  • Prior experience with effectively developing, influencing, and successfully executing significant change initiatives.
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office suite.  
 
What Will Put You Ahead?
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience leading improvement teams.
  • 6-Sigma or Lean Manufacturing certification.
