The Opportunity:
 
The Control and Automation Specialist is an integral part of the Process Control Team for the Kingston Technology Group at INVISTA’s Kingston Site supporting robotics, PLC and manufacturing systems.
 
The role’s primary focus is to bring expert knowledge to our operation regarding PLC and control systems, wireless infrastructure/controls, robotics, camera/vision systems, positioning systems, and related infrastructure and applications. The incumbent will have the opportunity to demonstrate and develop strong ownership, critical thinking, and troubleshooting skills. 

The Role:
 
  • PLC and DCS implementation, programming, and troubleshooting
  • Collaborate with Operations, PCN/IT, and maintenance/reliability teams to design/support and implement highly efficient manufacturing solutions related to industrial controls, robotics, and vision systems
  • Bring best practice knowledge on the implementation of automated manufacturing solutions, plant of the future, industrial wireless communications, and internet of things (IoT)
  • Training of plant personnel on PLC’s, robotics, vision systems, and related infrastructure
  • Reverse-engineer application software related to manufacturing control systems to relieve dependency on external vendors
  • Design input and cost estimation for capital equipment and automation projects related to the advancement of automation in the manufacturing space
  • Provide oversight and direction to vendors and third-party integrators/providers for implementations and upgrades within the automation space related to manufacturing
 
What’s Required?
  • Associate's or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Instrumentation, Automation, Computer Engineering, or related college diploma with a minimum of four years of industry experience working within a fast-paced manufacturing/process environment, preferably those involving industrial controls
  • Expertise / experience with Microsoft server and workstation operating systems
  • Expertise / experience with various vendor PLC and HMI systems (Rockwell, Schneider, Siemens etc.)
  • Ability to work occasional overtime and weekend "on-call" shifts as required to support business requirements

 

What will put you ahead?
  • Hands-on expertise with other PLC/HMI systems, Infi90 and ABB 800xA DCS
  • Hands-on expertise with automated manufacturing systems (conveyors, tables, AGV’s, etc.), robotics (Fanuc), vision system
  • Experience with industrial wireless technologies and implementation best practices
  • Knowledge of industrial protocols related to control systems such as Modbus RTU/TCP, OPC, etc.
  • Knowledge and experience interfacing with production data historian systems such as AspenTech IP21
