Koch Biological Solutions is currently recruiting an innovative and self-motivated Analytical Chemist to develop analytical methods to characterize and monitor small molecules from complex fermentation cultures. The selected individual will interact closely with microbiologists and fermentation scientists to support our R&D product pipeline. The successful candidate will have the ability to develop/troubleshoot analytical methods independently and possess excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment. 



A Day In The Life Typically Includes:

  • Develop and optimize analytical methods for the separation and quantification of bioactive natural products
  • Support fermentation team through development of assays to monitor fermentation processes and quantify product titer
  • Determine efficient processes to extract structurally diverse small molecules from complex fermentation broths
  • Routinely review and validate existing and new analytical procedures
  • Prepare SOPs for standardized analysis of a variety of primary and secondary metabolites
  • Evaluate capability of development of a scalable recovery and purification process
  • Advise on potential technology transfer of analytical assays and recovery to CRO and CMO when projects move to larger manufacturing scale
  • Maintain an organized physical and electronic workspace and collaborate closely with the data management team to develop automated data capture and reporting strategies
  • Promote a culture of laboratory safety 

What You Will Need: (Basic Qualifications)


  • 3+ years of experience in analytical chemistry
  • Experience working with various analytical tools, including Liquid Chromatography, Gas Chromatography, or Mass Spectrometry
  • Experience with developing analytical methods to quantify and characterize small molecules
  • Experience using various extraction techniques to recover structurally diverse small molecules from complex fermentation cultures
  • B.S. or M.S. degree in organic chemistry, biochemistry, or analytical chemistry

Physical Requirements:
  • Willing and able to lift up to 25 lbs.


What Will Put You Ahead: (Preferred Qualifications)


  • 5+ years of experience in analytical chemistry
  • Ph.D. degree in organic chemistry, biochemistry, or analytical chemistry
