Koch Fertilizer, LLC. (KAES) is seeking a highly motivated Fixed Equipment Inspector to become part of the Reliability team at our fertilizer plant of about 80 employees near Ft. Dodge, IA. The Fixed Equipment Inspector will work cross functionally with Koch Reliability, Operations, Maintenance, and EH&S teams and will be responsible for performing API inspections and providing oversight of the RBMI program for the Ft. Dodge plant. The successful applicant will report to the Reliability Leader.



A Day In The Life Typically Includes:

  • Manage the IDMS, develop metrics related to RBMI, and make recommendations in matters related to the RBMI program.
  • Develop inspection strategies and repair plans in accordance with appropriate API codes.
  • Conduct fixed equipment inspections as needed and produce and/or review complete inspection reports.
  • Manage inspection contractors as needed and review inspection reports.
  • Assist Reliability Engineer with technical inspection knowledge to successfully support reliability targets.
  • Assist with development of outage scopes and support outages throughout all stages.

What You Will Need: (Basic Qualifications)


  • 3+ years’ experience as a fixed equipment inspector
  • Active API510, API570, API653 certifications
  • RBI management system experience
  • Experience with fixed equipment fabrication, maintenance, and repair
  • Experience with chemical manufacturing processes, corrosion, metallurgy, and damage mechanisms
  • Experience dispositioning equipment deficiencies and make repair recommendations
  • Ability to coordinate contract inspectors to perform work we are unable to do in-house
  • Experience with NDE practices
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Willing and able to work nights/weekends as needed to support the plant
  • High school diploma
  • Ability to wear all necessary PPE (hard hat, boots, glasses, FR’s, leather gloves, etc.)
  • Ability to enter vessels via manway and perform internal inspections
  • Willing and able to travel up to 25% of the time
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to climb stairs, ladders and work at heights of approximately 25-100 ft
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather
  • Ability to wear a gas mask type respirator
  • Unassisted physical mobility around a plant


What Will Put You Ahead (Preferred Qualifications)


  • Level 2 ASNT qualified in UT, PT, MT, RT
  • Knowledgeable with API 579 (FFS) and 580/581 (RBI)
  • Knowledgeable with NBIC
  • CWI certified
  • Maximo CMMS experience
  • Lloyd's Capstone RBMI experience
  • 5 years’ experience as a fixed equipment inspector with oversight of other inspectors
