Based in Brandon, Manitoba, we synthesize and blend nitrogen, phosphate, and sulfur products with ammonia, which we market primarily in the prairie provinces of Canada and the northern United States. INSTRUMENTATION RELIABILITY ENGINEER
 

The Reliability Engineer performs high level data analytics, developing predictive maintenance methods and moving the MI program into the future, away from calendar-based methods to data driven, predictive methods. This engineer evaluates instrument technologies and new techniques to improve reliability of instruments and drives innovation with respect to instrumentation used in the plant.

 
You will:

Perform and evaluate all SMART field instruments using AMS' online diagnostic capability using AMS as a PdM platform. This includes:

    • Evaluating, creating and migrating existing PMs in Maximo to PdMs

    • Providing regular AMS reports as to the overall health of the instrument field devices

    • Help select and plan maintenance and inspection strategies, and assist in training maintenance crews

 
As the Instrument Subject Matter Expert, you will:
    • Provide instrumentation engineering expertise to maintenance department; support project, shutdown and turnaround goals

    • Support planning for project and turnaround instrument work  

    • Examine and adjust field equipment for efficiency based on instrumentation

    • Provide technical support to production, maintenance management and technical personnel

    • Review Instrument QC sheets and coordinate with maintenance on any outstanding issues

    • Review and update loop, PID and other drawings pertaining to instrumentation and associated electrical

    • Prepare instrumentation material requisitions; evaluate quotations

       
For Instrument Reliability, you will:
  • Apply value analysis to repair/replace, repair/redesign, and make/buy decisions

  • Test new equipment upon arrival to site; examine and adjust equipment and instruments

  • Pre-inspect received and shipped instruments in stores

  • Guide efforts to ensure reliability and maintainability of equipment, processes, utilities, facilities, controls, and safety systems

  • Provide recommendations and procurement for improvement or replacement of discontinued instrumentation

  • Support maintenance and production departments for 100% instrumentation and plant reliability and availability

  • Support the Process Controls Engineer and act as their backup when offsite

 

The qualifications you have include:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Controls, Instrumentation or Chemical Engineering and at least five (5) years of related industrial experience or skilled tradecraft experience with at least fifteen (15) years of advanced knowledge in electrical, instrumentation and controls engineering, as well as applications such as PLC, SIS and DCS systems

  • Knowledge of fertilizer, chemical or refinery processes

  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills in determining the best repair solutions

  • Excellent verbal and written communication

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suit

  • Experience with Provox and Delta V DCS and Modicon PLCs

  • Proficient in AMS and other related software

  • Experience leading Electrical, Controls, and/or Instrumentation Reliability Teams Experience

  • Planning experience along with proficiency using a CMMS (ie. Maximo) is preferred

  • Functional Safety Engineer, SIS Certification and/or CMRP Certification are considered assets

 

The work environment you’ll be entering requires and includes:

  • Ability to work in an industrial manufacturing environment

  • Availability for flexible hours based on job requirements

  • Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals

  • Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather

  • Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and work at heights

  • Occasional exposure to fumes/airborne particles

  • Ability to wear a gas mask-type respirator and PPE

  • Tolerance to occasional exposure to fumes or airborne particles and toxic/caustic chemicals with appropriate PPE

  • Unassisted physical mobility in and around plant and equipment

  • Ability to sit, stand, kneel as necessary
  • Ability to travel to and enter site to access equipment

  • 10 %travel, including air
