Looking for an opportunity to do applied research?  Are you interested in finding solutions for improving agriculture through natural products? Koch Biological Solutions, LLC is seeking a Research Associate with experience and an interest in plant physiology – including photosynthesis, plant water relations, plant nutrition, and plant hormones – to work in our Discovery research group!

The new team member will run experiments to find and understand how these products, which are derived from plant and microbial sources, improve plant productivity and crop yield. The successful candidate will have excellent written & verbal communication skills (one-on-one conversations and in a group setting); experience conducting highly organized & detail-oriented independent work; and demonstrated ability to improve team performance.

A Day In The Life Typically Includes:

  • Developing and documenting SOPs, and carrying out experiments that measure plant productivity
  • Planting and growing plants in a greenhouse, growth chambers, and in plant tissue culture environments
  • Running LI-6400XT LI-COR machines and other instruments to measure plant physiology parameters
  • Harvesting tissue and using weighing robots to quantify plant biomass
  • Preparing reagents (using high precision balances and sterile techniques) 
  • Documenting and sharing experimental results in a group setting


What You Will Need: (Basic Qualifications)


  • 2+ years of experience in a plant research laboratory or greenhouse
  • Experience with reading primary research literature to develop research protocols
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel (e.g. editing spreadsheets)
  • Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline that includes some plant biology courses


Physical requirements: 
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to sit, stand or kneel as needed
  • Occasional exposure to fumes/airborne particles


 What Will Put You Ahead: (Preferred Qualifications)


  •  2+ years of experience in an industrial research laboratory or greenhouse
  • Experience with greenhouse automation
  • Experience researching and developing experimental methods for plant biology research   
  • Experience with LI-6400XT LI-COR machines
  • Lab automation experience
  • Experience with a lab information management systems (LIMS)
  • Experience with statistical analysis in R
  • B.S./B.A. degree in plant biology, plant physiology, plant genetics, or agronomy
