The Research and Development team is seeking a Senior Research Chemist to join our team in Decatur, GA. The R&D New Product Development group is responsible for bringing new solutions to market such as new and improved Enhanced Efficiency Fertilizers or processes: typical activities revolve around ideation, reaction optimization, formulation development, pilot scale-up, efficacy testing and technology assessment.


This role will support the R&D Manager New Product Development, working in Koch Agronomic Services, LLC (subsidiary of Koch Industries, Inc.) and will partner with various Koch capabilities during all phases of the product development and life cycle.

 


A Day In The Life Typically Includes:

 

  • Define, communicate, and deliver clear technical objectives and progress for new projects, product improvements and innovation areas.
  • Conceive and manage projects from lab to pilot-plant scale, including conducting experiments in the lab and on a pilot-plant scale.
  • Use design of experiments (DOE) to change multiple variables simultaneously and identify acceptable ranges for all product characteristics.
  • Analyze complex data sets to generate hypotheses for optimization.
  • Ensure smooth project transitions from pilot-plant scale to full-scale manufacturing.
  • Actively champion the project work process and assures deliverables are completed in line with plans.
  • Deliver timely and thorough documentation e. g. report-writing, invention disclosures etc.
  • Demonstrate strong oral communication, written communication, and presentation skills.
  • Provide strong support and technical training of team of chemists.
  • Maintain active interface with project stakeholders for progress against commitments and change management.
  • Support other capabilities to ensure compliant product development (EH&S, Product Stewardship, Supply chain, etc.)

  • Strong project management – Ability to manage large projects spanning multiple capabilities, contract research organizations and/or consultants as appropriate.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated dedication and enthusiasm about identifying and solving scientific problems.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit, critical thinking skills, and ability to develop and explore new and unprecedented routes towards technical solutions.
  • Self-driven. Demonstrated history of initiative and drive for continuous improvement.

What You Will Need:


Basic Qualifications:

  • 4+ years’ experience working in a chemical laboratory setting (can include post-graduate academia).
  • Comprehensive and state of the art knowledge in modern synthetic methodologies as well as proficient knowledge of analytical techniques.
  • Master’s degree or higher in Organic Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmacology, or related Life Science.

 

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders in excess of 30 ft.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
  • Willing and able to travel up to 10% of the time.

What Will Put You Ahead?


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. Degree in Organic Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmacology, or related Life Science.

  • 3+ years’ experience working in the chemical, pharmaceutical, fertilizer or petroleum industry.
  • Experience working in formulation development for the Agriculture industry.
  • Project Management experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership of multidisciplinary R&D projects.
