OPD is looking for a Welding Engineer to join our team! 

Optimized Process Designs, LLC (OPD) is a name in the natural gas industry that has become synonymous with quality design and construction, competitive pricing, and on time delivery of processing, treating, and compression facilities.

This position requires a welding engineer that is versatile and well-rounded with the ability to manage the company’s welding program in addition to supporting the mechanical engineering team in design and review of a wide breadth of mechanical engineering functions.  The ability to contribute to the mechanical team outside of welding is a major function of this role. 

The successful candidate will be a highly self-motivated and result-oriented individual with a well-rounded mechanical engineering, metallurgy, and welding background. The person in this role will serve as a general mechanical engineering resource in addition to being the company’s expert for questions related to welding, materials, and heat treatment.

The ideal candidate will have significant experience as a weld engineer as well as broad exposure to mechanical engineering within the oil and gas industry, including vessels, heat exchangers, piping codes, and rotating equipment. This position requires someone who is detail-oriented, possesses superior communication skills, will work and succeed in a high degree of uncertainty and complex interactions. The ideal candidate will have a proven record of maintaining weld procedures and standards and ability to reference applicable codes and standards to ensure compliance.


A Day In The Life Typically Includes:

The successful candidate for the position will be responsible for the following duties:

            Welding Engineer

·       Maintain a welding program with weld procedures and welder qualifications 100% compliant to applicable regulations, laws, codes and applicable customer requirements.

·       Manage the client weld procedure review process to ensure all subcontractor and company weld procedures are reviewed in a timely manner. 

·       Provide consultation to project and field teams regarding metallurgy, materials, and applicable design codes including ASME BPVC, ASME B31.3, B31.4, and B31.8.

·       Provide general mechanical engineering support to project teams as required, including verification of design calculations and detailed review of mechanical equipment (pressure vessels, pumps, compressors, exchangers, etc.)

·       Evaluate new developments in welding field for possible application to current welding problems or production processes.

·       Educate and mentor employees on the requirements of applicable code(s) and standards.


What You Will Need: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Welding Engineering, Material Science with emphasis on Metallurgy and Welding, Welding Engineering Technology or Industrial Engineering with relevant experience.
  • At least five years of experience evaluating and/or creating Welding procedures in an industrial manufacturing environment.
  • At least five years of working experience maintaining a welding program with weld procedures and welder qualifications.
  • Thorough knowledge of ASME and AWS code requirements for welding, inspection and testing, particularly ASME Code Section VIII, Division I and Section IX.
  • Exposure to Oil and Gas standards including ASME B31.3, B31.4, B31.8, and API 582
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office® Suite (Word/Excel/PowerPoint/Outlook)
  • Experience and understanding in interpreting diagrams and technical drawings. 

What Will Get You Ahead: 

  • Experience in mechanical engineering design (piping design, metallurgy, vessel design, exchanger design, rotating equipment design) within the oil and gas industry.
  • Experience developing or reviewing piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and isometric drawings.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer
  • AWS Certified Welding Engineer (CWEng)
  • Experienced in NDE types liquid penetrant testing, magnetic particle testing, and/or interpretation of radiography film.
