Demurrage Analysts at Koch Supply & Trading are an integral component of the business team. Our team members interact internally with traders, operations, IT professionals, contract administration, accounting, and credit, while working externally with demurrage counterparts.

A Day In The Life Typically Includes:

  • Analyze and negotiate demurrage claims from ship/barge owners and third-party customers in line with charter party and commercial contract terms
  • Invoice third party customers in line with charter party and commercial contract terms
  • Build and maintain relationships with internal and external customers
  • Actively communicate with counterparties to ensure timely collection of receivables
  • Report status of demurrage negotiations to traders
  • Work closely with accounting to ensure efficient processing of demurrage payables and proper billing of receivables
  • Communicate with shipping group to proactively avoid potential demurrage issues
  • Thoroughly review Koch contracts and advise traders when laytime and demurrage language requires realignment. Review third-party contracts and proposals for potential commercial risk.
  • Analyze demurrage trends to understand business changes and advise trading group in ways to minimize future risk
  • Develop ad-hoc metrics to stay ahead of an ever changing business

What You Will Need:

Basic Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's Degree (Maritime, Accounting, Business, Finance, Mathematics preferred)
  • 1 years of demurrage/post deal claims experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office


What Will Put You Ahead?

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 2 years demurrage analysis experience with Maritime focus

  • Shipping knowledge

  • Experience with Charter Party and Buy/Sale Agreements

  • Exposure to contract interpretation

  • Ability to analyze data with a high level of attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to effectively and professionally communicate through both written correspondence and verbal communication
  • High level of motivation
  • Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Team-player
  • Ability to create metrics by pulling data from multiple sources
