We are seeking an Accounting Assistant for our Georgia-Pacific (GP) Harmon Recycling business. The position is located in Dothan, AL. Dothan is located in Southeast Alabama, less than a two hour drive from the beautiful beaches on the Florida Gulf of Mexico.

For more than 40 years, GP Harmon Recycling has been at the forefront of the recycling industry, significantly reducing the amount of materials sent to landfills so they can become new products that we use every day.


A Day In The Life Typically Includes:




  • Interacting with internal and external business partners   

  • Paying suppliers or researching payments

  • Invoicing customers

  • Responding to customer requests and answering questions

  • Assisting with cash receipts and other account reconciliations 

  • Updating vendors and customers on delivery confirmations, bill of ladings, etc.

  • Maintaining and filing paperwork

  • May also support some month end closing processes   

What You Will Need: 


Basic Qualifications:  

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • A minimum of one (1) year of accounting or financial experience

  • Experience using Microsoft Excel (data mining, extracting data, data entry)

  • Experience using Microsoft Outlook (email, calendar scheduling)

  • Experience with the general ledger or subsidiary ledger transactions

  • Experience using Accounting software (i.e. Quickbooks, SAP, AS400, etc.)

  • Aptitude and desire for learning new systems and improving processes through innovation and automation 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Associates degree or higher in Business, Accounting, Economics or Finance

  • Three (3) years or more of accounting or financial experience

  • Prior experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel – spreadsheet creation/editing, pivot tables, data manipulation/analysis and formula creation etc., Access-query, and PowerPoint – presentation creation/editing)

  • Highly motivated, proactive, willingness to engage and partner 
  • Sense of urgency - able to prioritize his/her own workload to ensure optimal outcome 
  • Strong customer focus with analytical, financial and economic thinking skills 
  • Detail oriented with a strong emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail 
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) 
  • Ability to work in a team environment 
  • Basic self-awareness and an understanding of how personal behavior impacts others
