Georgia-Pacific is recruiting an Area Plant Controller to be a key member of the Packaging Segment. The role can be based at either of our locations in: San Leandro, CAModesto, CAOlympia, WA.   This role is responsible for the financial analysis, accounting and internal controls for multiple plants and will require travel (including overnight stays) to the individual locations.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the Area General Manager by promoting an environment of effective partnering with operating and business management
  • Provide oversight and financial leadership for multiple corrugated facilities in the Industrial Packaging Group
  • Assist the business in maintaining strong Internal Financial Controls
  • Develop, train, and prepare finance and accounting employees for roles with increased responsibilities
  • Serve as the financial leader on the Area management team and help maximize value creation and enhance decision making
  • Provide leadership and supervision of 2-4 direct reports
  • Seek out and identify innovation and process improvement opportunities
  • Support the Controllers vision and lead change 

  

What You Will Need:

 
Education Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, Business or Economics
 Basic Qualifications:
  • At least 5 years of financial analysis and accounting experience
  • Prior Leadership or Direct Supervisory experience
  • Must be able and willing to travel overnight to meet the requirements stated above
  • Prior experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel - spreadsheet creation/editing, pivot tables, data analysis/manipulation and formula creation, etc., Microsoft Word, and PowerPoint – presentation creation/editing) is required 

Knowledge – Skills – Abilities:

  • Solid understanding of GAAP and the General Ledger
  • Strong customer focus with analytical, financial, and economic thinking skills
  • Proven fiduciary skills and oversight of internal controls
  • Team leadership, talent coaching and development
  • Strong presentation skills and ability to interact successfully with various levels of the organization
  • Clearly understand integrated financial systems
  • Proven capabilities of strong economic thinking and manufacturing analysis are needed to be successful in this role
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written) and planning and organizational skills are desired
  • Must be flexible and able to prioritize multiple tasks in a dynamic environment
  • Proactive/self-driven work habits with demonstrated ability to lead change, improve processes and solve problems

 

What Will Put You Ahead:

 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Accounting coursework that includes Intermediate Accounting and Cost Accounting
  • Manufacturing experience is strongly preferred
  • Advanced/Expert level MS Excel skills
  • Ability to compile and manipulate large data sets and use BI and data analytics tools (e.g., using ACL, IDEA,  Alteryx, Tableau, Qlik sense, etc.)
  • SAP, Infinium, Infor or large ERP experience preferred
  • Experience with key financial concepts: variance analysis, product costing, inventory and capital investments
