Automation Controls Engineer

Georgia-Pacific has an immediate opening for an Automation Controls Engineer at our Hosford, FL OSB facility.  The Hosford facility is located about 27 miles west of Tallahassee, the Capitol of Florida, and a short 30-minute drive to beautiful gulf coast beaches! Looking for nearby outdoor activities? Hosford is close to Lake Talquin Reservoir, the land of fishing, hunting and water sports – located on the Ochlockonee River between Leon County and Gadsden County!

      

Want to know more about the position? The Automation Controls Engineer will assist in the troubleshooting of chronic process issues through the RCA process and develop and implement controls/automation solutions where practical to minimize downtime and maximize process efficiencies. Establish metrics, goals, and benchmarks that drive excellence through promoting continuous process improvement while aligning and optimizing the manufacturing enterprise in delivering value to the business.

   

A Day In The Life Typically Includes:


  • Developing scopes, estimates and schedules for electrical portions of projects
  • Developing drawings with assistance from electrical designers

  • Preparing specifications and bid packages for electrical equipment and installation services as well as participate in the bid evaluation and selection

  • Ensuring the facility's electrical systems are operating reliably, efficiently, and in compliance with all electrical safety regulations

  • Driving reliability excellence through passionate execution of precision and proactive process control strategies

  • Project field engineering, including construction, startup, and commissioning support

  • Identifying and implementing electrical improvements that result in year-over-year improvements in safety, production, maintenance and costs

  • Monitor the quality of craft work and provide direction to crew members to maximize production efficiency as well as reduce re-work issue

  • Promoting electronic documentation of records and troubleshooting techniques by the electrical team to facilitate knowledge sharing

  •  Providing oversight of external engineering resources in support of capital projects, as needed

                     


What You Will Need:


Basic Qualifications:
  • A High School Diploma or equivalent degree
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Management, or a technical field AND/OR five (5) or more years of industrial process control experience

  • Experience with programming and configuring PLCs, HMI’s, AC drives, computers and process control networks

  • Experience utilizing and configuring data historian systems

  • Experience with 3-phase motor controls, 480V AC systems, low voltage DC systems, and various AC drives

  • Experience utilizing Root Cause Analysis (RCA) or other similar problem-solving tools

  • Knowledge of electrical safe work practices – NEC and NFPA 70-E Electrical Safety Standard

  • Knowledge of electrical theory and its applications

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel

  • Basic accounting and financial knowledge – e.g. department or project budget management

  • Able and willing to work in a manufacturing plant environment, including extended periods of time in dusty, noisy, non-air conditioned or unheated areas


What Will Put You Ahead?


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS)
  • Experience with Allen Bradley platform including PLC systems (ladder logic), DH+, Device Net, Ethernet, and Control Net networking

  • Experience with Intouch / Archestra based HMI platform including data historian

  • CAD design experience i.e. AutoCAD
