Commercial Compliance Specialist


The Georgia-Pacific Corporate Strategic Sourcing & Procurement Compliance & Ethics team, headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, is seeking a Commercial Compliance Specialist to join their team.


This position will work closely with the Safety and Environmental Specialist. The successful candidate will have knowledge of the industry’s standards and regulations specifically as it relates to the Commercial Compliance areas. We are also looking for someone that has a strong sense of urgency, attention to detail, a high level of professionalism, be able to maintain absolute confidentiality, and demonstrate the ability to manage several competing demands.



A Day In The Life Typically Includes:

  • Ensure implementation of the Code of Conduct, Commercial Compliance Standards and the Risk Management System (RMS) elements across the organization
  • Create, document, and implement sustainable compliance subject matter area processes; assist with continuous improvement
  • Facilitate and complete risk assessments and self-assessments; proactively identify and assess existing and emerging compliance risks
  • Evaluate the efficiency of controls and continuously improve upon them.
  • Maintain the SS&P Commercial Compliance Share Point
  • Develop compliance communications (key messages and alerts), gather and share knowledge and best practices with cross-functional teams
  • Assist with category annual plan development and implementation
  • Facilitate internal reporting and metrics/measures development
  • Learning Management System – coordinate, track and report required employee compliance training
      • Assist in developing training materials
  • Site Profile – ensure compliance roles are maintained and tracked
      • TRAX/Action Plan Tracker (APTS) – assist in the resolution of compliance concerns/issues and audit findings, ensuring appropriate elevation, investigation, and management
  • Coordinate Records and Information Management efforts

What You Will Need:

Basic Qualifications:
  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Business and/or Forestry Operations
  • Experience working with compliance
  • Proven experience balancing multiple projects and priorities
  • Proven communication and listening skills; ability to work with and actively engage a diverse group of stakeholders 
  • Experience in the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and training materials
  • Experience with Microsoft Office 365: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Microsoft Teams and Planner
  • Ability to travel 15% of the time.

What Will Put You Ahead?

Preferred Qualifications:
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in a compliance or controls-focused role with significant experience in implementing detailed risk management programs in a complex industry
  • Experience in implementing programs based on regulatory framework and enforcement
  • Ability to research standards, policies, and regulations and provide practical interpretations
  • Knowledge in the fields of transportation, security and government interaction
