Reporting to the VP of Innovation to Insights, Georgia-Pacific is seeking a Director of Innovation Insights based out of Atlanta, GA where you will explore innovations across global markets in Packaging, Natural Materials, and Sustainability.  The key focus of this role is to partner with innovation initiative leaders to discover insights, develop market and business hypotheses, and validate assumptions with target customers leading to breakthrough products, services, and business platforms.


A Day in The Life Typically Includes:

As the Director of Innovation Insights, you will provide customer-based evidence to accelerate and de-risk big growth initiatives along a lean start-up journey to market.  This role is for the truth monger who loves to emerge themselves in customer problems and jobs-to-be-done in search of high growth opportunities that create value for customers.  Leveraging your strong qualitative skills in identifying meaningful customer needs, you will work with entrepreneurial venture teams that progress ideas to market by validating hypotheses through iterative experiments and customer co-creation.  You will lead the way in providing business leadership with evidence needed to bring innovations to market from the experiments you are facilitating, designing, and executing.  As part of a team of innovation practitioners and customer insights experts, you will be coming in during the early stages of building a new market-facing innovation capability to fuel future growth. The ideal candidate has a passion for deep customer learning using a variety of traditional and creative research techniques along with the business acumen to translate those insights into viable businesses opportunities that can scale.

Additional responsibilities include:
  • Teaching and coaching others on customer learning.

  • Demonstrating Strong communication skills to bring insights ideas to life via expertly crafted narratives.

  • Highly networked among market research agencies and resources. Experienced in leveraging external research partners to augment in-house capabilities.

  • Courage to challenge status quo assumptions about the customer/market.

  • Possessing quantitative and qualitative market research skills

  • Exceptional consumer sensitivity, empathy and intuition, combined with understanding of market dynamics and trends (technological, socio-economic, environmental, etc.)

  • Expert at making customer insights actionable, contextually relevant, and compelling. Able to synthesize and communicate complex findings with a focus on the critical business implications and compelling opportunities.

  • Curious, creative, and conceptual with demonstrated strengths in discovery skills.

  • Excellent written, presentation, and oral communication skills.

  • Entrepreneurial minded, self-motivated, and confident with the ability to influence decision makers

      What You Will Need:

      Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree or higher
  • Verifiable track record of bringing products and/or services to market with clear articulation of the codependency of the market research activities and market success

  • Experience applying deep learning concepts and behavioral insights combined with the ability to translate the learnings into new customer experiences

  • Experience applying a broad array of research methodologies (qualitative and quantitative, online and direct, primary and secondary), with a preference for behavioral science approaches that move beyond what customers are able to articulate

  • Experience in screening participants, moderating discussions, administering tests, managing vendors, analyzing results, summarizing learnings, and formulating recommendations to executive leadership

  • Experience hiring, developing, and managing market research professionals

  • Experience with innovation methodologies including design thinking and lean start up

  • Extensive experience in B2B markets

  • Experience designing and leading innovation sprints and workshops
