Georgia-Pacific is seeking an Environmental Health and Safety Manager for our St. Mary’s, GA Extrusion plant. Reporting to the General Manger of Operations, the EHS Manager provides leadership and strategic direction by building a partnership with front-line leadership and collaborating with business partners to develop and mentor the production team relating to EHS. In this role, the EHS Manager will ensure that systems are in place to effectively address facility EHS risk profiles.

St. Mary’s is a facility specializing in extrusion by adding poly on board that is delivered to Dixie facilities for Dixie Cups production. St. Mary’s is a union facility with 65 employees and is located in Camden County, GA. Located on Georgia's southernmost coast, Camden County encompasses the communities of Kingsland, Saint Mary’s, Woodbine, and Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay. Camden County is located on the GA/FL line, just north of Jacksonville, Florida. Historic St. Mary’s Georgia offers picturesque streets lined with centuries old live-oaks and the restorative beauty of waterways and marshes. It is also the gateway to Cumberland Island, Georgia's largest and southernmost barrier island. Here, pristine maritime forests, undeveloped beaches and wide marshes whisper the stories of both man and nature. Cumberland Island is also home to over 9,800 acres of Congressionally Designated Wilderness.


A Day In The Life Typically Includes:


  • Providing leadership and direction in establishing and achieving a meaningful EHS vision and effective strategies through management commitment and employee ownership
  • Driving EHS excellence by developing and implementing risk and compliance management systems
  • Evaluating and developing synergies between safety and environmental programs
  • Leading the development and use of risk assessment methods and systems for anticipating, identifying, and evaluating hazards.
  • Driving and assisting with the mitigation of identified gaps, weaknesses, and improvement opportunities including the development and implementation of key controls
  • Actively managing all aspects of compliance (e.g., OSHA, EPA, Georgia, local, and Georgia-Pacific standards) and ensuring ownership resides with the appropriate roles within the organization
  • Identifying EHS development and training needs, including the development and delivery of training as needed
  • Driving continuous improvement using tools and activities, including self-assessments and audit processes; incident/near miss investigations; metrics and targets (leading and lagging indicators); and periodic reviews of performance, culture, and talent
  • Effectively communicating facility EHS vision, strategies, and performance to internal and external stakeholders
  • Managing the Worker’s Compensation insurance policy and program

What You Will Need:


Basic Qualifications:
  • One or more of the following:
    • Three (3) or more years of environmental, safety and health experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment
    • Successful completion of Georgia-Pacific's ELP, EDP, or intern programs and one (1) or more years of EHS experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting
    • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Safety & Health, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Sciences, Engineering, or EHS field
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office software (i.e., Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint)

What Will Put You Ahead?


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Five (5) or more years of environmental, health and safety experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or demonstrated progress to attain CSP or other professional safety certifications
  • Previous leadership experience
