Georgia-Pacific's Consumer Products division is seeking qualified professionals to consider for their Environmental Manager opportunity to support the pulp and paper manufacturing facility located in Crossett, AR.


Crossett provides a safe, modern community at the heart of some of the finest hunting, fishing and wildlife locations in the South, yet is a short drive to shopping, food and entertainment centers and within hours of major urban centers.



Provide Environmental leadership and strategic direction to the Crossett Paper Mill operation. Create long term value for the organization by ensuring risk is proactively identified and mitigated. Develop and align mill environmental strategies consistent with company/division environmental vision and strategies. Drive Environmental excellence through culture change, sustainable management systems and Environmental team member development. Ensure leaders and employees are trained and equipped to manage environmental responsibilities. Facilitate the above through the application of our management philosophy, Market Based Management®, and adherence to our Guiding Principles. This position reports directly to the Mill Manager, with a dotted-line reporting relationship to the Division Environmental Manager, and leads a team of environmental professionals.


The ideal candidate must be able to embrace and lead change, possess strong interpersonal skills and efficiently balance multiple priorities. The position requires strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide variety of audiences. The successful candidate must also lead by example, be self-motivated, exhibit sound decision-making, and have proficient organizational and team development skills.   



A Day In The Life Typically Includes:

  • Applies subject matter expertise and excellent communication skills to independently and objectively help environmental teams and mill operations identify and meet environmental compliance requirements.
  • Ensures a robust Environmental Management System (EMS) is in place consistent with GP expectations.
  • Plans and leads self-assessments to identify opportunities to improve performance of both the mill and the environmental team.
  • Systematically drives mill environmental program to be more effective, consistent, verifiable, and efficient.
  • Develops and owns an evergreen point of view of Crossett’s environmental risks, priorities, key issues, and plans.
  • Works collaboratively with mill manager, leadership team, and operations to ensure the environmental program is effective across the mill.
  • Ensures tools/methods to assess facility compliance status are implemented, tracked, and adjusted as necessary.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of implementation of the GP Risk Management System, and reports identified gaps or best practices accordingly.
  • Supports a robust management of change process consistent with the Risk Management System.
  • Proactively maintains knowledge of current and emerging federal, state, and local Environmental regulatory requirements affecting mill operations.  
  • Effectively collaborates with local and divisional management, public relations, technical subject matter experts and other capabilities on issues that affect the local community and external stakeholders.

What You Will Need:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, environmental management, or related major
  • Experience leading environmental processes, programs, and/or projects
  • Breadth and depth of understanding of multiple environmental subject areas
  • Five (5) or more years of environmental compliance and management systems experience

What Will Put You Ahead?

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ten (10) or more years of environmental compliance and management systems experience
  • Experience in managing environmental issues in a large manufacturing environment
  • Supervisory experience, including leading and developing direct reports
  • Pulp and paper process and regulatory knowledge
