Koch Fertilizer Ft. Dodge is looking for a highly motivated Instrumentation & Electrical Maintenance Engineer to become part of the Reliability team at our fertilizer plant of about 80 employees near Ft. Dodge, IA. The I&E Maintenance Engineer will work cross functionally with Koch Reliability, Operations, Maintenance, and EH&S teams and will be responsible for operational instrumentation performance and support, including day to day instrumentation problem solving, root cause investigation, definition of corrective actions, and management of small projects to implement solutions. The successful applicant will report to the I&E Reliability Engineer.


A Day In The Life Typically Includes:

  • Work with I&E Reliability Engineer, I&E Technicians, Reliability Center and Operations to optimize instrumentation performance at KFFD and solve day-to-day issues in the field
  • Perform root cause analysis investigations related to instrumentation failures
  • Interface with vendors and support procurement to bring instrumentation and replacement parts to the plant
  • Use Maximo, Management of Change, and Project work processes as necessary to implement corrective actions
  • Write specs and data sheets for instrumentation
  • Assist with development of operator and craft training for new systems and installations
  • Assist with development of outage scope and support outages throughout all stages

What You Will Need:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office)
  • Experience with industrial instrumentation maintenance or implementation
  • Ability to work nights, weekends and occasional callouts as needed to support the plant
  • Technical degree OR 3+ years' experience in instrumentation maintenance
 Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and work at heights of approximately 25-100 ft
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs - Ability to work outside in all types of weather
  • Unassisted physical mobility around a plant
  • Ability to sit, stand, or kneel as needed
  • Ability to pass a pulmonary breathing test
  • Ability to wear a gas mask type respirator
  • Ability to work nights, weekends, and occasional callouts as needed to support the plant
  • Ability to wear all necessary PPE (hard hat, boots, glasses FR's, leather gloves, etc.)


What Will Put You Ahead?

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Field instrumentation selection/specification experience
  • Root cause analysis investigation experience
  • Knowledge of process industry standards and codes, i.e. OSHA, ISA, IEC, NFPA, ISA 84 Functional Safety, etc.
  • Working knowledge of instrumentation controls systems, DCS, SIS and functional safety
