Georgia-Pacific is seeking a Assistant Superintendent- Paper Machines to join our team at our Cedar Springs, GA facility.  This role will be responsible for the advancement of human technologies interaction to improve the effectiveness and overall efficiency of the current & future processes of our Paper Machines department, to maximize the long-term value of Safety, Environmental, Production and Cost.  This position will also provide strategic and tactical leadership to achieve key operational objectives in compliance, reliability, quality and cost reductions through process/equipment optimization and operator knowledge and skills improvement.

A Day In The Life Typically Includes:


  • Work closely with the Production Area Leader to optimize paper machines activities for a large integrated paper mill
  • Promote an environment where the team achieves zero incidents in Environmental, Health, Safety and Process Safety
  • Lead the department to achieve and maintain compliance regarding organizational, state, and federal regulatory standards; commercial, environmental/health/safety, etc.
  • Support process operations with troubleshooting & analysis of current systems to improve the effectiveness and overall operational efficiency by reducing operator interventions to control the process, reducing variations and increasing the reliability of the equipment
  • Partner with corporate teams to implement new technologies that are consistent with “Factory of the Future” advancements on other initiatives
  • Work with internal customers to include partnering with hourly team members, to integrate mill initiatives within the department,
  • Support maintenance preparation for daily operations, and for daily, monthly, yearly and cold outages
  • Support development of the maintenance spend plan and the five-year capital plan
  • Provide project management leadership and support for projects that are managed locally or in partnership with corporate teams

What You Will Need:


Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree or Technical Degree or higher in engineering or pulp & paper science
  • Five (5) or more years of pulp and paper industry experience
  • Experience supporting paper machines
  • Experience using Microsoft Office programs such as Word (to write business correspondence), Excel (for use of spreadsheets, reporting, simple formulas) and Outlook (for internal and external correspondence)
  • Experience providing strategic and tactical leadership in the areas of asset reliability, cost optimization, quality capability, productivity and strategic capital planning and execution
  • Interpersonal skills with the ability to teach, coach and mentor people
  • Communication, presentation, planning and organizational skills i.e.: ability to Multi-Task and prioritize
  • Experience troubleshooting and problem-solving skills i.e.: utilize constructive challenge to drive to the optimum solution
  • Leadership experience showing the ability to affect operational change and improvement
  • Operational results showing year over year improvement
  • Supervisory or management experience

What Will Put You Ahead?


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with Process Safety Management in regulated chemical processes
  • Experience working in a union environment
  • Containerboard manufacturing experience
