Mechanical Engineer


We are currently recruiting for a Mechanical Engineer for our Building Products division.  The role will be based in Atlanta, GA.


A Day In The Life Typically Includes:

 

Responsibilities:

  • Support project teams in the development and implementation of projects using the Georgia-Pacific Capital Project Work Processes
  • Mechanical design of systems / sub-systems for operating facilities, approved projects, and proposed projects
  • Trouble shooting of existing mechanical systems
  • Altering existing designs for better efficiencies, greater capacities, and better reliability
  • Provide bill of materials for the mechanical portion of projects designed
  • Assist with estimating installation times and cost
  • Designs would include compressed air systems, steam systems, condensate systems, thermal oil systems, pneumatic conveyance, mechanical conveyance, fluid systems, piping stress analysis
  • Prepare/supervise the development of contract documents as required including drawings and specifications
  • Coordinate and interface with Project Managers, Plant Personnel, and third-parties as necessary.
  • Provide detailed analysis for technically challenging designs
  • Perform design and evaluation of piping and/or equipment supports
  • Use economic thinking when evaluating equipment, vendors, and contractors
  • Provide expert advice relating to mechanical engineering matters
  • Participate in the Root Cause Analysis of major mechanical engineering problems


What You Will Need:

 

Basic Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited university
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of mechanical engineering experience
  • Willing to travel up to 40%
  • Understanding of piping codes and standards including ANSI
  • Experience in using AUTOCAD

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

 

  • Mechanical Engineering, Thermodynamics, Fluids
  • Proficiency in using various fluids modeling and stress analysis software
  • Specific knowledge of pneumatic conveyance, steam and condensate, thermal oil a plus
  • Process flow calculations, key elements of design
  •  Ability to develop written scopes of work
