Flint Hills Resources has a role available to be a part of the South East Texas Division’s Operations team as a Mechanical Technician.

A Day In The Life Typically Includes:

This individual will be responsible for safely and efficiently managing the daily maintenance of FHR’s pipeline and station assets to maintain our stance on being a leader in environmental, health, and safety.  As a technician you will work to maintain valves, relief valves, pumps, piping, tanks, actuators, and other equipment associated with the operation of the pipeline.  This technician will work to fulfill external customers’ needs as well as work with other FHR capabilities to conduct trainings and meetings and demonstrate sound economic thinking.  A successful candidate for this role will need to be able to work with peers to provide and receive direct and honest feedback while being able to challenge and be challenged by others.
A successful candidate must possess:
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently without direct supervision to accomplish goals, meet schedules, and complete work orders
  • Computer skills, specifically the ability to use Microsoft Outlook, Excel

What You Will Need:

Basic Qualifications:
  • 2 years of experience in mechanical preventive or predictive maintenance
  • High School Diploma (or equivalent)
  • Valve maintenance experience
  • Pump maintenance experience
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Willingness to travel of up to 25% including overnight travel
  • Ability to respond to assigned sites within 45 minutes


Other Considerations:

  • Frequently lifts, carries, or otherwise moves and positions equipment
  • Frequently climbs ladders and stairs to reach equipment
  • Position requires the ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Frequently works in hot, cold, or inclement climate conditions
  • Position requires the ability to wear a respirator and to pass a respirator fit test
  • Position requires the ability to be on-call on a rotational basis and to respond to calls 24/7 for emergency response


This role is subject to the Transportation Workers Identification Credentialing rule or “TWIC” and requires the successful candidate to obtain a TWIC identification badge, allowing for unescorted access to the facility within a specific time period.

What Will Put You Ahead?

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5 years of experience on large, horizontal, split case, multi-staged centrifugal pumps, or can pumps
  • Valve repair experience on any type of slab, ball, wedge, twin seal, or butterfly valves API process pump experience
  • 2 years of Industrial Maintenance or Gas Compressor Repair experience
  • Previous mechanical experience in the pipeline industry
