Mobile Equipment Mechanic

Talladega, AL


Georgia-Pacific just opened a new state-of-the art lumber mill in Talladega, Alabama! This location receives about 150 log trucks a day and produces approximately 300 million board-feet of lumber a year! This is an exciting opportunity to work in a technologically advanced plant. 

We are recruiting for a Mobile Equipment Mechanic. This skilled position will support our operations efficiency through troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining mobile equipment. A Day in The Life Typically Includes:

  • Troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining mobile equipment
  • Perform repairs and preventive maintenance according to a structured scheduling system
  • Performing periodic proactive asset strategies, such as maintenance routes, preventative maintenance, and other tasks to improve reliability and uptime 
  • Maintaining accurate maintenance logs including labor hours and critical preventive maintenance findings
  • Working with the operations and maintenance teams to identify and prioritize maintenance needs
  • Helping meet or exceed production and quality goals while optimizing equipment to reduce waste
  • Adhering to all plant safety and environmental guidelines, policies, and procedures and actively participating in the safety program
  • Assisting in the development and implementation of reliability centered maintenance strategies
  • Applying problem solving methods to identify root causes and eliminate failures

What You Will Need:

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • At least three (3) years of experience as a heavy equipment mechanic
  • Experience reading electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics
  • Experience diagnosing and rebuilding power train components including internal combustion engines, transmissions, and final drive components.
  • Experience with welding and fabrication
  • Experience working with preventative and predictive maintenance
  • Willing and able to work in high and/or confined spaces
  • Willing and able to adhere to all safety rules and procedures
  • Willing and able to work in a hot, humid, cold, and noisy industrial environment
  • Willing and able to work weekends, holidays, rotating shifts, and overtime as required

What Will Put You Ahead?

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Five (5) years or more of mobile equipment or millwright experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Technical diploma or higher
