This position is based in the Packaging Development Team for the Georgia-Pacific Professional business reporting to the Senior Manager of Packaging Development. The Packaging Development Engineer works on cross-functional teams driving packaging development to deliver optimized solutions for new product launches and existing product optimization and mill equipment reconfigurations. Responsibilities will include supporting marketing, manufacturing, logistics, and planning to identify and implement supply chain initiatives to reduce costs, simplify operations or increase speed to market. This position will support the GP PRO paper towel, tissue, and napkin product segments.  Brands include enMotion®, Marathon®, COMPACT®, and Dixie Ultra®.  The position location is flexible to Atlanta, GA, Savannah, GA, Green Bay, WI, and Muskogee, OK


A Day In The Life Typically Includes:

  • Recommend optimal product configurations and alternatives considering equipment capabilities, product costs, supply chain economics, and customer requirements.
  • Use current engineering software to design component-level packaging templates/drawings.
  • Manage packaging specifications for primary, secondary, and tertiary packaging.
  • Manage eCommerce initiatives which include trial plan development, ship testing, and validation as needed to achieve business objectives for eCommerce.
  • Proactively identify opportunities that create value through the supply chain to reduce waste along with improvements within speed to market.
  • Maintain open communication and build strong relationships with cross functional partnerships including internal and external supplier partners.
  • Develop project plans and take ownership to troubleshoot and drive resolution for customer order freight/load integrity issues.
  • Provide subject matter expertise in support of commercialization.
  • Effectively inform internal graphic designers of key packaging features to optimize graphics.
  • Maintain accurate packaging specifications in enterprise databases.

What You Will Need:

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science in packaging engineering, industrial engineering, mechanical engineering, or related bachelor's degree with a minor in packaging sciences
  • 1+ years of engineering experience, including any internships
  • Experience using ArtiosCAD , AutoCAD

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience managing projects to flawlessly commercialize new products.
  • Highly independent contributor able to prioritize and take action based on economic thinking.
  • E-commerce specific engineering analysis and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of graphics development and printer capabilities.
