Department Superintendent – Taylorsville , MS


Georgia-Pacific is seeking a Department Superintendent in our plywood manufacturing facility in Taylorsville, MS.  The Production Superintendent will lead a wood products production plant to work injury-free/incident free in a batch manufacturing environment consistent with Market Based Management (MBM®) Philosophy and Framework. You will support an approach to optimize the constraining process machine centers.

A Day In The Life Typically Includes:


  • Fully utilize Work Process to prioritize work based on data and promote preventive and predictive maintenance

  • Ensure the department operates effectively and efficiently utilizing operating, quality and housekeeping standards

  • Coach team development and growth, and review and manage performance

  • Build employee commitment and ownership, and hold employees accountable for contributions and missed opportunities 

  • Drive safety and compliance excellence through promoting employee involvement, ownership,training and accountability to proactively identify hazards and implement the appropriate mitigating strategies based on the risk involved

  • Assist with troubleshooting and innovation to and solve production, quality and reliability issues


Interact with key operations personnel such as the Plant Manager, Supervisors, Reliability Manager, Human Resources Manager, Safety Manager, Environmental Manager, maintenance personnel and employees at all levels of the site organization.


What You Will Need:

Basic Qualifications:


  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Must be able and willing to work safely ,and promote safe work practices

  • Four (4) or more years of experience in an industrial, manufacturing or military environment

  • Three (3) or more years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing, industrial, or military environment

  • Experience in leading a department or organization in EH&S, Reliability, Production, Cost and Quality Excellence

  • Experience in analyzing production data to eliminate waste and foster continuous improvement

  • Must have working knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and other PC-based production reporting systems applications

  • Must be able and willing to work a flexible work schedule

  • Must be able and willing to work in a manufacturing plant environment, including extended periods of time in noisy, non-air conditioned or unheated areas

  • Must have experience in employee performance management and change management


What Will Put You Ahead?

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Industrial, Mechanical, Electrical engineering or a similar discipline

  • Wood Products manufacturing experience

  • Experience working with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), e.g. – SAP, MP2, ActivePlant
