INVISTA Research and Development (R&D) operates a world class multidisciplinary Process R&D Laboratory comprised of an innovative, highly motivated and skilled technical team located in Orange, Texas. INVISTA has a continued commitment to leadership in many catalyst areas by utilizing advantaged technology with an emphasis in the area of hydrocyanation, hydrogenation and oxidation catalysis of small molecules that have value in the marketplace.  This position interfaces with additional R&D and technical resources across INVISTA Global R&D sites to solve challenging technical problems in the areas of catalyst chemistry, polymer chemistry and material sciences.  


Seeking an Analytical R&D Principle Investigator in our Intermediates Research Group. INVISTA’s commitment to continue as a world leader in Process R&D will provide challenging career openings and the opportunity to be at the forefront of technological advancement on a global stage.


A Day In The Life Typically Includes:

  • Writing detailed procedures for safe and proper operation of analytical lab equipment
  • Following prescribed safe work practices for handling chemicals in use and operation of reaction equipment and related systems including, handling highly flammable, corrosive and toxic chemicals, e.g., hydrogen, hydrogen cyanide, ammonia, carbon monoxide, nitriles, or amines
  • Work with and assist a highly skilled analytical team to solve challenging technical problems
  • Assure accurate interpretation of data by auditing results and providing routine feedback and training to technicians
  • Work in cross functional team environment with product/process development scientists, engineers, and analytical team members to support research programs
  • Experience in operating, maintaining, troubleshooting and interpreting analytical instrumentation

You will need to have a demonstrated ability to work safely and receive guidance around the potentially hazardous nature of laboratory work.

What You Will Need:

Basic Qualifications:

  • PhD in Analytical, Organic, Inorganic or Organometallic Chemistry or related discipline with demonstrated skill in Analytical Instrumentation and Method development
  • Experience with chromatography, GC/MS, multi-nuclear NMR, and interpretation of NMR spectra

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be capable of frequently sitting, standing, walking, reaching with hands and arms, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling
  • Must be capable of regular lifting and moving up to 10 pounds, frequently lifting and moving up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lifting and moving up to 50 pounds
  • Must be physically capable of spending long hours standing and occasionally work in chemical-protected clothing and equipment
  • Must be able to wear any or all of the following PPE: safety glasses, hearing protection, goggles, hard hats, FRC, acid suits, breathing air, gloves, safety boots, respirators, and encapsulated suits. PPE use is in accordance with the Job Safety Analysis (JSA) for a given task.

What Will Put You Ahead?

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong technical skills in Gas/Liquid Chromatography, NMR, MS, and Elemental analysis with potential to move into supervision of a team consisting of 2-10 employees
  • Previous work experience with plant engineers, plant personnel, and other scientists in the role of Analytical R&D support
