Georgia-Pacific is currently seeking a Process Engineer to join our CPG Corporate Engineering team for our Through Air Dried (TAD) technology platform. The ideal candidate will possess a Chemical and/or Paper Science background. This role will create value by supporting the Retail TAD Towel businesses through our TAD Technology Platform Team. This position works closely with the Port Hudson, Wauna, and Palatka TAD paper machine operations and maintenance teams to advance dry end equipment reliability and process stability.  “Dry End” is defined as equipment and processes originating at the crepe blade through the in-machine roll handling equipment. As a member of the team, you will play a key role in defining the operating parameters for the TAD paper making process, sharing that knowledge with the operations teams, strengthening TAD paper making skills, and improving production efficiency for all assets. This will be accomplished by working closely with mill operations to improve operating metrics including production, quality and cost. This is an exciting time and opportunity as the Retail TAD Towel business team is also building a new paper machine and converting operation at the Palatka, FL mill!
 
The position requires working in and around industrial equipment. It also requires occasional 12-hour night or day shifts during trials or equipment start-ups to support project execution or down days and also using a PC for portions of the workday.

The home organization for this position is Consumer Products Group (CPG) Engineering based in Green Bay, WI.  Physical location will primarily (>70% of time) be at the Wauna, OR mill.  Employee will occasionally support operations in Port Hudson, LA, and will be expected to support the new machine start-up in Palatka, FL. Occasional travel in this role is required.  The travel amount may vary at times but should not exceed 25% of the time, on average for the next 2 years.
 
The CPG Engineering team consists of nearly 200 individuals across the United States working with our 15 Tissue Towel and Napkin mills and our 8 Dixie facilities on capital project execution as well as run-ability of current assets.  We are engineers, project managers and designers focused on a quality delivery.  We partner with our mills as one team, one vision, one result. 
 
 
A Day In The Life Typically Includes:
 
  • Working TAD paper machine operations and maintenance teams to advance dry end equipment reliability and process stability
  • Applying problem-solving & trouble-shooting skills to paper machine operations.
  • Leveraging internal and external resources (technical, engineering, operations)
  • Utilizing comparative advantages (based on prior and learned skills) to assist all TAD assets for non-dry end problem-solving
  • Applying Georgia-Pacific’s Market Based Management (MBM®) to drive long term value creation in support of Manufacturing and Business customers
  • Working closely with mill operations teams to standardize (where appropriate) and improve the reliability of the dry end of TAD paper machines
  • Processing troubleshooting/optimization, calibration checks; leading mill maintenance, operations, and contract personnel; presenting findings to appropriate teams
  • Developing and ensuring implementation of standard procedures, recurring and model work orders
  • Ensuring equipment hierarchy, Catalog IDs, spare parts, and storage locations for spares optimally supports all 4 TAD machines for the dry end
  • Explaining & developing skills of technicians on process concepts and changes
  • Coordinating with R&D, mills, and Engineering to develop venture summaries for investments and product improvements
  • Assisting with all operational aspects of design, construction, check-out, commissioning, and start-up activities with the new paper machine at Palatka
  • Demonstrating strong interpersonal, communication, and time management skills
  • Handling multiple tasks simultaneously and organize multiple priorities with a sense of urgency
  • Working with an awareness and commitment for the safety of yourself and others
     
     
What You Will Need:
Basic Qualifications:
 
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical, Chemical, or Paper Science Engineering or ten (10) or more years of paper machine operating experience
  • Six (6) or more months papermaking operations leadership experience, such as Manufacturing Engineer, machine leader/superintendent, or other roles that require direct interaction with operating crews
  • Willing and able to work non-standard hours such as nights and/or weekends when necessary
  • Willing and able travel up to 25% of the time
     
What Will Put You Ahead?
Preferred Qualifications

 
  • Experience and training in analytical troubleshooting, advance problem-solving techniques, and proficiency in statistical analysis tools (ex: Kepner Tregoe, etc.)
  • Paper industry experience
  • Experience creating and using process documents such as P&IDs
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with mill operating and maintenance personnel
  • Proficient with MS-Office, and PI
