Georgia-Pacific Building Products is seeking a motivated and self-driven Project Estimating Manager to join our Project Controls team. The preferred location will be at our Atlanta office.  As a Project Estimating Manager you will work closely with project teams, the business, and management to prepare, review, and validate control estimates to ensure competitive and predictable cost estimates.  Estimates should be aligned with risk based contingency, contractual requirements, company project controls guidelines, and industry best practices for industrial manufacturing facilities and supporting infrastructure.  Project estimate reviews and validations will be utilized in management reviews and project gate keeping prior to full funding. 


A Day In The Life Typically Includes:

 

  • Effectively communicating with Project Managers, Contractors, and Vendors, to develop estimate inputs
  • Mentor project team members in best practices of estimating
  • Support both Capital and Expense projects in the development and analysis of estimates from conceptual phase through construction execution and project close-out
  • Working with Site and Construction Planners to ensure alignment of estimate to the scope of work, work breakdown structure, schedule, and execution strategy
  • Perform drawing quantity take offs and estimate unit rates using historical and standard rates while adjusting for site and project specific factors
  • Ensure Project estimates include assumptions and clarifications to support validation, contingency development, and range of expected outcomes
  • Analyze third party estimates to validate the quality, scope inclusiveness and accuracy
  • Verify estimate integrity in support of project readiness assessments
  • Review estimates for completeness and competitiveness.  Prepare summary reports for management review to evaluate projects for full funding.
  • Coordinate with counterparts within Georgia-Pacific and other Koch companies to stay in touch with expectations and practices
  • Become a Subject Matter Expert within the Building Products organization
  • Support benchmarking with Independent Project Analysis and internal reviews

What You Will Need:


Basic Qualifications:

 

  • Four (4) years’ experience in project estimating in an industrial and/or construction environment.
  • Experience with estimating techniques and cost control methods.
  • Experience with of construction concepts, practices, and procedures and able to apply experience and judgement to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Experience reading mechanical and construction drawings and develop a scope of work
  • Experience with MS office products including MS Outlook, Excel and Word.
  • Experience in planning, organizing and multi-tasking while working on multiple estimates at the same time
  • Experience in aligning project estimates with cost control tools and practice
  • Experience in working in industrial construction and operating environment
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Ability to travel up to 25%

What Will Put You Ahead?


Preferred Qualifications:

    

  • Fifteen (15) years’ experience in projects
  • Experience creating estimate reviews and validations.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering, Construction,  or Technology related field.
  • Project Management, Construction Management, or Estimating related professional certifications from such organizations as AACEI – American Association of Cost Engineers International, ASPE – American Society of Professional Estimators, PMI – Project Management Institute
  • Background in Estimating, Cost Engineering, and/or Cost Accounting for major construction projects in an industrial setting
  • Experience in using industry recognized estimating tools (e.g. AspenTech, Sage Timberline, RS Means, etc.)
  • Experience in the Project Work Process, construction management processes, means and methods
  • Understanding of integrating estimates into schedules (Primavera and Microsoft Projects)
  • Familiarity with EcoSys Project and Portfolio software
  • Experience with projects greater than $1 million
  • Understanding of Work Breakdown Structure and Cost Breakdown Structure philosophies
