Project Manager – Western Region CPG Engineering Group

Georgia-Pacific’s Consumer Products division has an immediate opening for a Capital Construction Project Manager to join the western region engineering group located in Camas, Washington. The ideal candidate will lead and manage the development and execution of capital projects, primarily in Georgia Pacific’s western region facilities. 

A Day In The Life Typically Includes:

  • Develop and evaluate investment alternatives that provide the best long-term value creation solution, coordinating with the Facility, Business, Engineering, Sourcing and Legal teams.
  • Coordinate engineering design of chosen alternative to develop a comprehensive project execution plan.
  • Develop and execute project investment venture summaries with full responsibility for managing scope, schedule, and estimates while applying judgment, initiative, economic and critical thinking skills.
  • Coordinate activities of contractors involved in project execution.
  • Partner with procurement and sourcing teams to align on equipment and construction contracting strategies, including bidding, cost evaluation, selection, and award. 
  • Specify equipment and construction requirements to implement projects.
  • Manage third parties including but not limited to outside consultants, contractors, and technical resources.
  • Seek and use best knowledge and proactively share knowledge while embracing challenge to drive innovation.
  • Communicate with operating departments, capability groups, maintenance and engineering to determine opportunities to add value to the facility/company and recommend/implement solutions.
  • Manage the execution of checkout and start-up activities and lead post completion project audits.
  • Apply effective project controls in capital execution, including estimating, scheduling, cost engineering, forecasting, and reporting.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and time management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously and organize multiple priorities with a sense of urgency.
  • Ability to understand and develop relationships with mill and division leadership to anticipate and satisfy their needs.
  • Strong computer skills in MS Office Suite, and Microsoft Project.
  • Ability to obtain and apply meaningful feedback from key stakeholders.
  • Customer focused, continually seeking innovative ways to improve project execution. 
  • Ability to collaborate with other team members and resources.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or closely related degree.

  • Regional travel up to 50%, depending on project phase.

  • Ability to work in a variety of manufacturing and construction environments, including nights and weekends if required.

  • Minimum of 3+ years of project management experience in an industrial environment.

What Will Put You Ahead?

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering

  • 7+ years of project management experience

  • Experience in pulp & paper and/or industrial processes and systems
