CPG Safety Engineer
 
Reporting to the Consumer Products Group Process Safety Leader, this position will heavily collaborate with the CPG Engineering, CPG Safety, and Site Safety/Engineering representatives to provide technical and administrative leadership to ensure the design and implementation of reliable safety systems on assets.
 
The Safety Engineer will be part of a two-member team responsible for leadership of the business’ strategic improvements around safety systems. In addition to providing broad technical expertise and overall program co-leadership candidates must be able to: provide coaching and direction to implement organizational expectations for the assets, conduct auditing of the assets providing accountability for the organization, provide customer service for safety system discrepancies that require detailed plans for continued service, lead program improvements to prevent common administrative and technical failures, and provide safety system orientation for employees at all levels of the organization as needed.
 
This position will require travel primarily within the United States. Occasional travel to Europe may also be required. Travel is estimated at 40-65%. The primary office location for the position is negotiable.

A Day In The Life Typically Includes:

  • Providing leadership and direction to apply and achieve the Process Safety (PS) vision through management commitment and employee ownership as it relates to safety systems
  • Leading safety system strategic efforts to drive metrics, both performance-based (i.e. leading indicators) and outcome based (i.e. lagging indicators)
  • Assisting facility safety and engineering representatives with the development of short and long-term risk reduction project deliverables
    • Collaborating with project engineers/managers, vendors, and mill representatives on technical aspects of functional safety during project inception, design reviews, factory acceptance tests, and commissioning
    • Working with various teams to review new and existing equipment for proper application of machine safeguarding, safety-related functions, and safety logic
    • Proactively meeting the needs of the operations groups as it relates to the business needs for applicable assets
  • Ensuring the development, improvement, and implementation of training materials to improve business understanding and application of safety systems; This includes:
    • Maintaining a working knowledge of regulatory codes and applicable safety standards to include OSHA 1910.147, ANSI B11.0, ANSI B11.19, ISO 13849 -1 & -2, NFPA 79, and RIA 15.06
  • Providing analysis of safety system failures and near misses to assure system wide strategic corrective actions are implemented
  • Co-managing a key asset safety system register
  • Providing communication to management regarding common safety system issues impacting the facilities
  • Producing accurate and high-quality work in a time sensitive fast paced environment

What You Will Need:


Basic Qualifications
  • A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or other Science/Engineering field
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in an operational, technical, or maintenance role
  • Experience and knowledge in mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems
  • Experience with Microsoft applications to include but not limited to creating charts, formatting, data entry, creating presentations and reports
  • Willing and able to travel 40%-65% of the time with occasional travel abroad

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Safety system experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Paper mill experience
  • A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering
  • TUV Certified Functional Safety Engineer
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience in an operational, technical, or maintenance role
  • Demonstrated ability to establish sustainable systems for continuous improvement
