Our Victoria, Texas site is currently looking for a Safety Engineer within the Site Safety Department. Working closely with the Site Health and Safety Manager, your responsibilities will include maintaining the OSHA 300 Log, maintaining critical site safety procedures and providing Health and Safety support to the facility. Participate in Corporate Community of Practice initiatives regarding Safety and Health. You will also be involved in safety trend analysis and monitoring of metrics and supporting the site in acting on information gleaned from the metrics. You will work with a wide variety of personnel at different levels in the organization, and with internal customers.  In addition, your duties will involve coaching/teaching/mentoring others in the organization.


The Safety Engineer will support the Victoria’s Site Vision and strategies as they create the necessary relationships, tools, and processes to achieve and maintain site specific goals. You will be a part of a Health and Safety Team in a rapidly changing chemical plant environment. Our Victoria, TX facility proudly produces three principal products: Adipic Acid, Adiponitrile, and Hexamethylenediamine. These are intermediate chemicals used in the manufacturing of nylon fiber and specialty products and are transported to INVISTA customers by rail, truck and barge in various forms of liquids and bulk solids. The Victoria site is located on 4,500 acres about eight miles south of the city of Victoria along the Victoria Barge Canal and Guadalupe River with approximately 1,000 acres are used for manufacturing. The remaining 3,500 acres including a 53-acre constructed wetlands and environmental science education center are certified through the national Wildlife Habitat Council’s Conservation Certification program for wildlife habitat management and preservation. 


 


A Day In The Life Typically Includes:


 

  • Meeting with site/internal customers to ensure their health and safety needs are addressed.
  • Conducting audits across the facility.
  • Participating in incident investigations as needed.
  • Lead or champion safety initiatives
  • Provide ongoing support to Operations and Maintenance departments related to any site Health and Safety needs.
  • Participate in Pre-Start Up Reviews on behalf of the Site Safety Department as needed
  • Promote the development of new and current tools and technologies to help urgently transform how we use and implement safe work practices.
  • Stay abreast of technology and processes for potential improvements regarding Safety and Health at the facility.
  • Be a leader in promoting a safe workplace and maintain compliance with health and safety policies and practices.
  • Assist with contractor on-boarding as needed.
  • Assist with development of safety and health capabilities of the operations/maintenance organization.
  • Conducting risk assessments

 


What You Will Need:


Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety and Health from an accredited university
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Occupational Safety and Health in an industrial operating plant environment
  • Minimum of 1-year of experience leading teams
  • Experience in trend analysis and monitoring
  • Experience in developing risk mitigation strategies
  • Experience in incident investigation techniques
  • Minimum of 1-year of experience in developing strategic improvement plans
Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to enter and move about in confined spaces and wear personnel protective equipment
  •  Must be able to climb stairs and/or ladders in a plant environment
  • Must be able to work in extreme temperatures and weather conditions for various periods of time
  • Must be willing to periodically work nights, weekends and in excess of 8 hours as needed

What Will Put You Ahead?


Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Certification in Occupational Safety and Health (CSP-ASP)
  • Previous Occupational Safety and Health experience in Process Plant and/or Refinery
