We are seeking a Senior Accountant to join our Accounting Services team. This role will support our  Building Products business and will be based in Atlanta, GA at our LEED® Certified, Downtown HQ.
This role will drive value for Georgia-Pacific LLC by providing support for month end close, ad hoc accounting and monitoring internal financial controls for multiple facilities in Building Products.  Travel is estimated at 20% - approximately one week per month.  The Senior Accountant position is an individual contributor role, with an opportunity to gain valuable experience in a manufacturing business.  The role will be responsible for a variety of accounting duties, which will provide knowledge, growth and experience for advancement to positions of greater responsibility and technical ability throughout the company. The successful candidate must be self-directed, able to manage multiple projects, set priorities and meet deadlines.  A natural curiosity coupled with the aptitude for process improvement and the ability to embrace change and transformation, are keys to this position.
A Day In The Life Typically Includes:
  • Perform month-end closing activities: including but not limited to journal entries, accruals and business reports, in a timely and accurate manner, ensure compliance with company policies and meet closing deadlines
  • Perform monthly/quarterly balance sheet account reconciliations, investigate differences, and determine resolution to resolve discrepancies in a timely manner
  • Review P&L and Balance Sheet trending for accuracy and completeness

  • Perform fixed asset transactions – capitalizations, retirements, transfers

  • Provide accounting guidance to local operations – capital vs. expense on major projects, new accounting policy changes, etc.

  • Monitor internal controls through site visits, inventory observations, inventory test counts, PPE reviews, IFC roundtable participation, etc.

  • Create value through process improvement, standardization, sharing best practices and innovation

What You Will Need:
Education Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting, Finance or Business
  • GPA of 3.0 or above

Basic Qualifications: 
  • At least THREE years of Accounting or Financial Analysis experience (manufacturing experience preferred)
  • Solid understanding of overall Accounting Functions (GL, AR, AP, Inventory, etc.) and GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles)
  • Solid understanding of intercompany transactions, and month end closing procedures
  • Conceptual understanding of the design and purpose of internal controls
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel – spreadsheet creation/editing, pivot tables, data manipulation/analysis and formula creation etc., Access-query, and PowerPoint – presentation creation/editing)
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Manufacturing experience
  • ERP knowledge - i.e. SAP, Infinium, Infor or other large integrated accounting system
  • Experience in Excel macros, Tableau, Alteryx or other data visualization tools
  • Experience providing timely information and service to internal business customers and auditors
  • Experience in Public Accounting or Large Company Corporate Accounting department
