The Technical Services Group, Packaging & Cellulose, is looking for a self-starting technical adventure seeker to fill a Senior Engineer role in the Power & Utilities Group. This team provides technical support for Packaging and Cellulose facilities with a wide variety of technologies.  The Power & Utilities Group is responsible for support the production facilities with chemical recovery, steam production, power generation and distribution, water treatment, and air quality control.  The Senior Engineer will seek value opportunities and provide leadership to drive implementation of projects and operation and maintenance practices to capture that value.  This fast paced and challenging role requires engineering expertise in the support of conceptual studies, design, construction, operation, maintenance and trouble-shooting of steam and electrical generation and kraft chemical recovery facilities. This role can office in Atlanta or home-based (southeast is preferred, but not required).



A Day In The Life Typically Includes:

As the Senior Engineer you will be expected to regularly visit production facilities to identify value opportunities.  Capturing the value identified requires the Engineer to develop an action plan in coordination with the facility.  Action plans may involve a simple change of operation or maintenance practice, but they can also be more complex and develop into major projects.  You will be expected to provide technical support throughout the life cycle of equipment, from engineering study to startup through long term maintenance support.  You may work with suppliers to develop new technology or use industry or Georgia Pacific standards to issue equipment repair recommendations.  Supporting facility outage activity is a key responsibility as well, from planning through execution.  Safe, reliable and high-performance operation is needed from all Georgia Pacific equipment to provide the greatest value to our customers.  You will be expected to be a leading driver of activity to ensure Georgia Pacific has the best available equipment running at its best achievable performance.

 


What You Will Need:


Basic Qualifications:

  

  • Engineering degree or education or training applicable to steam or electrical generation or kraft chemical recovery equipment
  • Five (5) or more years of experience in one or more of the following areas related to steam or electrical generation or chemical recovery equipment:  engineering design, construction, operation, maintenance, manufacturer’s technical service representative
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with all levels of facility personnel from floor level operating and maintenance personnel to engineering and facility management
  • Expect to travel up to 75%

 


What Will Put You Ahead?

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering
  • Design level subject matter expertise in one or more areas of steam and electrical generation and chemical recovery technology
  • Ten (10) or more years of experience in steam and electrical generation and chemical recovery technology
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with top corporate management
  • Multi facility exposure to related technology
