Georgia-Pacific’s Consumer Products Engineering Group is seeking a Senior Kraft Pulping Engineer. The selected individual will provide staff level engineering expertise for conceptual studies, feasibility analysis, design, operation and troubleshooting of pulping, bleaching, and chemical recovery systems throughout the Consumer Products manufacturing operations. The physical location for this position has flexibility with potential to be remote/home-based in the Southeast or near a major airport.

 

The Consumer Products Group (CPG) Engineering team consists of nearly 200 individuals across the United States working with our 15 Tissue Towel and Napkin mills and our 8 Dixie facilities on capital project execution as well as run-ability of current assets.  We are engineers, project managers and designers focused on a quality delivery.  We partner with our mills as one team, one vision, one result.

A Day in The Life Typically Includes:

 

Provide technical services and capital project support. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Analyze existing systems, and develop strategies for improving safety, reliability, efficiency, and quality.
  • Participate in the development or selection of standard technologies and support a vision of innovation and automation.
  • Provide technical expertise in support of scope development of capital projects for all areas of an integrated Paper/Pulp facility.
  • Perform benchmarking, gap closure analysis, and preliminary technical and economic feasibility studies for the modification of or addition to existing pulping, bleaching and utility systems.
  • Coordinate, review and approve work done by engineering consultants.
Additional Key Responsibilities:
  • Strategically review the needs of the customer and work on plans to ensure the highest value opportunities are being met
  • Work collaboratively as part of the CPG Engineering Team to deliver advantaged engineering services
  • Leadership skills, including the ability to interact effectively with R&D, business units, manufacturing, and other support staff
  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of personnel including management, operations, and maintenance personnel
  • Strategic thinking and ability to make decisions based on data and facts
  • Effective communication skills
  • Experience building relationships
  • Ability to influence decisions without authority

 

 

 

What You Will Need:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher
  • Five (5) or more years’ experience working in a Kraft Pulp mill
  • Experience with the Kraft pulping process
  • Willing and able to travel 25% - 50% of the time

What Will Put You Ahead?

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or higher in Chemical Engineering or Paper Science
  • Experience with operations or a manufacturing setting
  • Possess a large network of professionals in the Kraft Pulping industry
  • Experience in leading projects and implementation of project activities
  • Knowledge of theoretical and practical aspects of the design, operation, and maintenance of continuous manufacturing
