About This Role:

We are looking for an entrepreneurial-minded innovator to join our internal consulting team focusing on advanced analytics and data science. Located in Bentonville AR, this role will focus on leveraging existing solutions developed by our Data and Decision Science team, as well as developing new and innovative data driven approaches to generate insights and drive optimized category decisions supporting our Walmart/Sam’s Club business.

This individual contributor role will be part of GP’s state-of-the-art Data and Decision Science capability that helps build, scale, utilize and socialize advanced data-driven models designed to inform our go-to-market strategies across all our retail customers. It will also have a dotted line to our Category Management organization to help contextualize and prioritize business questions.

This is a unique role in the organization, in that, it will give the incumbent high level of responsibility in both technical and business domains with a potential future career path in either direction. To that effect, two main expectations for the role will be:

  • Act as a hands-on subject matter expert of Data and Decision Science models, methodologies, datasets, and tools
  • Own end-to-end management of internal and external customer engagements; identify leads, draw out opportunities, draft solution proposals, build models, perform analysis, deliver insights and make business recommendations to promote overall category growth for the retailer

A Day In The Life Typically Includes:

  • Act as a champion of PRISM: Data and Decision Science team’s internally-developed machine-learning platform and help socialize its capabilities as a competitive advantage in areas such as pricing, promotion, assortment, portfolio, marketing etc.
  • Be an agent of change by identifying opportunity gaps in knowledge and working with Category Management team to evaluate/address questions via robust analysis, research and/or experiments.
  • Communicate effectively with cross-functional partners such as Sales and Customer Investment to clearly understand vision and priorities while understanding the implications of category recommendations across retail landscape.
  • Productionize (cleanse, harmonize, standardize, automate) existing and new data sources (e.g. demographics, financial, digital, marketing, macroeconomic data) to enrich existing models, and assist Data and Decision Sciences team with development of new models and algorithms (e.g. develop prototypes, run experiments).
  • Make recommendations to continuously improve statistical robustness and accuracy of PRISM models (e.g. new variable design, transformations, post processing), and address statistical inference issues (e.g. correlation vs causation, multicollinearity).
  • Build and expand business knowledge around key category, channel, and competitive trends, understand price elasticities (own, competition, x-retail), identify opportunities, and develop specific recommendations on product, portfolio, and price strategy across brands, channels, and pack-sizes.
  • Leverage existing tools to build a knowledge base around key market trends, category dynamics, own and cross price elasticities and help successfully execute against opportunities identified across retailers, markets, categories and product segments.

What You Will Need:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher
  • 5 years of CPG or Retail experience with exposure to category management, sales strategy or customer management
  • Proficiency in syndicated data tools such as IRI, Nielsen, etc.
  • Proficiency with statistics and data mining techniques
  • Proficiency with any data visualization software (e.g. Tableau, Qlik)
  • Proficiency with MS PowerPoint & Excel
  • Familiarity with any programming language (e.g. R, Python, C++, MiniTab, SAS, Matlab, VBA)
  • Exceptional communication and collaboration skills and ability to influence without authority a wide variety of internal/external stakeholders at all organizational levels
  • Strong appetite for learning, innovation, open to challenge, and be challenged with new ideas and established approaches

What Will Put You Ahead?

  • Graduate degree in Statistics, Engineering, Economics, Mathematics, Business or a related field
  • Proficiency with advanced MS Excel and data visualization software (e.g. Tableau, QlikView, etc.)
  • Expertise with practical application of statistics and data science techniques especially in CPG/Retail space (e.g.regression, clustering, time series)
  • Proficiency with a statistical analysis package (e.g. R, Alteryx, MiniTab, SAS)
  • Proven track-record of driving insights and influencing decisions across a diverse set of stakeholders
