Our team is growing! Georgia-Pacific is currently seeking a Sr Process Improvement Leader for our Through Air Dried (TAD) technology platform. This position works closely with the Port Hudson, Wauna, and Palatka TAD paper machine operations and maintenance teams to advance equipment reliability, process stability, and transformational technologies.  As a member of the team, you will play a key role in defining the operating parameters for the TAD paper making process, sharing that knowledge with the operations teams, strengthening TAD paper making skills, and improving production efficiency for all assets. This will be accomplished by working closely with mill operations to improve operating metrics including production, quality and cost.
 
The home organization for this position is Consumer Products Group (CPG) Engineering.  The physical location will depend on the candidate and business needs.  This role is a combination of travel and working remotely.  The travel amount may vary at times but should not exceed 50% of the time, on average for the next 2 years.
 
The CPG Engineering team consists of nearly 200 individuals across the United States working with our 15 Tissue Towel and Napkin mills and our 8 Dixie facilities on capital project execution as well as run-ability of current assets.  We are engineers, project managers and designers focused on a quality delivery.  We partner with our mills as one team, one vision, one result. 
 
 
A Day In The Life Typically Includes:
  • Working in and around industrial equipment in mills
  • Using various paper machine remote process monitoring tools to drive improvement
  • Working with TAD paper machine operations and maintenance teams to advance equipment reliability and process stability
  • Working with R&D, mill, engineering, and business teams to develop, advance, and implement investment ventures (capital and major expense)
  • Applying problem-solving & trouble-shooting skills to paper machine operations
  • Leveraging internal and external resources (technical, engineering, operations)
  • Working closely with mill operations teams to advance digital transformation, standardize procedures, machine set-ups (where appropriate), and share knowledge.
  • Explaining & developing skills of technicians on process concepts and changes
  • Assisting with all operational aspects check-out, commissioning, and start-up activities with the new TAD paper machine at Palatka
  • Organizing and executing multiple priorities with a sense of urgency; results focused.
  • Working with an awareness and commitment for the safety of yourself and others
  • Working occasional 12-hour night or day shifts during trials or equipment start-ups to support project execution or down days and also using a PC for portions of the workday 
What You Will Need:
Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical, Chemical, or Paper Science Engineering OR ten (10) or more years’ of papermaking experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Five (5) or more years of paper machine operating and leadership experience (e.g., Manufacturing Engineer, machine leader/superintendent, or other roles that require direct interaction with operating crews and paper making processes)
  • Willing and able to work non-standard hours such as nights and/or weekends when necessary
  • Willing and able travel up to 50% of the time
 
What Will Put You Ahead?
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience and training in analytical troubleshooting, advance problem-solving techniques, and proficiency in statistical analysis tools
  • Detailed personal experience with TAD paper making processes and operations as described above
  • Paper machine process improvement and project management experience
  • Experience with data analytics; deployment of augmented reality (AR),virtual reality (VR), or other immersive tools in manufacturing environments to improve technician efficiencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with mill operating and maintenance personnel
  • Proficient with MS-Office, PI, other project and engineering digital tools.
