Supplier Quality Manager

Atlanta, GA

 

Georgia-Pacific is seeking an experienced Supplier Quality Manager to join the Containerboard & Cellulose Technical Services team in Atlanta, GA.  The Supplier Quality Manager will work closely with corporate procurement, engineering, project management, leadership, and suppliers to ensure supplied equipment, materials, and services meet Georgia-Pacific project objectives.  This role will be responsible for and leading the development and maintenance of a supplier qualification and performance program to effectively manage supplier quality. 

 

This position will report to the Technical Services Quality Manager at our headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia.  Candidates must be willing and able to travel up to 50% domestic and international. 



A Day In The Life Typically Includes:

 

  • Assures supplier quality by enforcing quality assurance standards, policies, project quality plans and industry/government requirements.
  • Manages supplier quality and ensures a process is in place to provide feedback to company representatives and suppliers when defects are found and ensures corrective actions are taken.
  • Establishes and maintains supplier audits and site inspections. Develops process improvement plans and drive implementation. Monitors and maintains performance metrics.
  • Manages strategic supplier relationships and gains fulfillment by working with and coaching the supplier quality staff to drive continuous improvement and execution which support program and operations requirements.
  • Acts as communication conduit between plants, engineering, suppliers and strategic sourcing.
  • Responsible for thorough, timely, and effective resolution of supplier quality issues.
  • Drives improvement by leading supplier communications and problem-solving initiatives as well as facilitating multi-discipline discussions related to emerging or recurring concerns.
  • Collaborates with other members of the quality organization to share best practices and ensure standardization across business units.
  • Assists purchasing / sourcing group and project teams in selection and control of suppliers.
  • Collaborates with internal customers and stakeholders (procurement, project management, engineering, leadership) to meet project goals and expectations.
  •   Adapts, improvises, and problem solves, as well as manages multiple tasks and projects  Concisely explains complex issues supported with data. Team player with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Collaborates with corporate sourcing to develop and maintain improved standard quality assurance exhibits contractual language.  Gains alignment on minimum quality expectations (welding standards, acceptance criteria, progressive testing, workmanship requirements, inspection and test plans, etc.)

 

 

 


What You Will Need:


Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering OR 8+ years of Quality Management experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in a Sourcing or Purchasing role.
  • Experience in developing and/or maintaining an effective supplier quality management program
  • Strong interpersonal skills, expert communicator both written and verbal.
  • Ability to leverage Microsoft Office Suites (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Access, Project) to analyze and communicate relevant information with internal and external customers.
  • Ability to read and understand equipment fabrication drawings.
  • Clear understanding of code quality requirements, including owner and manufacturer's responsibilities (ASME BPVC, ASME Process Piping, API, NBIC, AWS).
  • Willing and able to travel up to 50% of the time.  
  • This position requires that the person be a highly organized, self-motivated individual who can manage multiple tasks and priorities, while adapt to changes in situation or priority.


What Will Put You Ahead?


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical, Chemical, Construction, Electrical.
  • 5+ years of experience in Supplier Quality Management role.
  • Quality Management/Project Management in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience supporting capital projects with a high emphasis on supplier quality in one or more of the following industries: aerospace, automotive, defense, chemical, petrochemical, pulp/paper, industrial power, nuclear.
  • Experience with welding quality processes for equipment fabrication and construction.
  • Demonstrated problem solver with direct experience coaching, and teaching.
  • Proven leadership skills focused on results and managing competing demands.
  • Experience in being a change agent leading complex transformational activities with demonstrated experience changing culture.
  • Experience successfully influencing employees who are not direct reports.
  • Strong knowledge of the fabrication/manufacturing process for process equipment, tanks, pressure vessels, and piping.
  • Is motivated by staying on the leading edge of innovation and best practices in quality science.
  • Demonstrated total cost of ownership value creation by application of lessons learned and supplier quality performance data to influence change of internal policies, specifications, or standards.
