Georgia-Pacific in Fayette, AL is recruiting for a Technical Manager. The Technical Manager supports value creation efforts by analyzing the lumber manufacturing process performance and developing key metrics to promote process improvement in safety, environmental, production, quality, value and yield performance.  This position is responsible for all Optimization Systems insuring effective performance through maintenance and set-up. A Day In The Life Typically Includes:
  • Collaborates with key site and divisional personnel to value and prioritize identified opportunities and outline execution strategies accordingly. 
  • Routinely gathers and analyzes key performance data on process, product and equipment to identify strategic improvements that create value.  
  • Provide process engineering oversight for the entire manufacturing process, from raw materials to finished goods, and effectively work with Operations, Quality and Reliability to improve quality, increase production / yield, and eliminate waste.  
  • Frequently lead teams in the execution of improvement projects to accomplish these goals. 
  • Plan and conduct trials, analyze and confirm process data, prepare the business rationale for new technology and manage approved projects. 
 
What You Will Need:

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering
  • Two (2) years of process engineering, manufacturing engineering, and/or plant engineering experience
  • Previous troubleshooting and programming experience
  • Experience with Root Cause Analysis, Gap identification and analysis, and project or program planning and execution
  • Working experience with Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Access
  • Able and willing to work in an industrial manufacturing plant environment including extended periods of time in noisy, dusty, non-air conditioned or unheated areas
  • Able to work a flexible work schedule, including but not limited to extended shifts, weekends, and holidays
  • Able and willing to work safely, including wearing and using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
 
What Will Put You Ahead?

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Engineering degree concentration: Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or Engineering Technology
  • Six Sigma certification
  • Experience leading improvement teams
  • Wood products manufacturing optimization experience
