The Roles:

 

Georgia-Pacific’s Collaboration and Support Center is located in midtown Atlanta at Tech Square.  The CSC team partners with operating facilities by providing collaboration and support across multi-disciplines of expertise (GP and Vendors) to achieve scalable problem solving across manufacturing sites and businesses.  The team uses the best available technology with an enterprise wide approach and is primarily focused in the areas of Asset Health, Process Safety, and Process Optimization.   

 

  

Individuals in this space need good technical skills, communication skills and must enjoy working as part of a team to solve problems.  This center has evolved and grown so the ability to be flexible and adapt as the CSC adapts to business needs will be a key capability.  A successful individual in this role must be willing to take personal initiative to understand unit operations, gain relevant knowledge, engage SME's and must be able to work both individually and as a part of a team in a dynamic environment.  He / she must also be responsible and responsive to the needs of the sites that operate 24/7.

   

 

We are seeking a Manager-Data Science to provide vision and leadership for the CSC’s Data Science capability, through supervising a team of approximately 6 Data Scientists. These roles work heavily with the plants’ process and reliability data. Individuals on the team interface with cross-functional teams and plant resources to find opportunities and improve asset health and performance.

 

 

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Apply innovative, scientific/quantitative analytical approaches & business intelligence to draw conclusions and make ‘insight to action’ recommendations
  • Provide thought leadership interacting with senior leaders to help them understand “Art of the Possible”, and how data science can create value across multiple domains
  • Manage/motivate/develop a team of advanced analysts and BI developers.
  • Develop and analyze business cases for analytic opportunities
  • Articulate architecture requirements for big-data integration & big data architecture
  • Develop and enhance employee skills in advanced analytics (including structured and unstructured data), Hadoop, real-time integration, BI, and cloud architectures
  • Partner with the manufacturing operations team at Collaboration and Support Center (midtown ATL) to solve complex problems via data science (prediction of events/conditions leading to an upset condition, and optimization functions)
  • Manage a team of 5-8 data scientists (direct / indirect)
  • Focus needs to remain on building minimum viable products (models) to get 80% of value

 

 


What You Will Need:


Basic Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in analytics, mathematics, statistics, engineering, data science or related field
  • Prior experience leading an analytics team and working a project from initial scoping through to delivering a minimum viable product.
  • Knowledge scaling and deploying large scale analytics solutions
  • Experience translating customer needs into projects/opportunities and a proven track record of delivering insights to an organization
  • Minimum 2 years of directly managing salaried positions

 


What Will Put You Ahead?


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Graduate degree in analytics, mathematics, statistics, engineering, data science or related field
  • 7 years of data science experience
  • Prior work experience in a data analytics center of excellence
  • Knowledge of Machine Learning techniques – clustering, neural networks, etc.
  • Experience with data analytics software like Alteryx, Python, R, SQL, SPSS, and Oracle
  • Experience with BI visualization tools, specifically Tableau & Qlik Sense
  • Expertise in data modeling, statistics and leveraging external third parties for specialized knowledge
